Wussat Qalb refers to the spiritual capacity and expansiveness of the heart, the ability to receive, endure, and act upon divine guidance with serenity and steadfastness. This capacity is a divine gift nurtured through spiritual striving, rooted in tawakkul (reliance on Allah) rather than mere emotional tolerance.

The Qur'an affirms that Allah never burdens a soul beyond its capacity: "Allah burdens not any soul beyond its capacity..." (Al-Baqarah, 2:287)

The Link Between Wussat and Tawakkul

Wussat is directly proportional to tawakkul. The more one trusts in Allah and surrenders to Him, the greater the heart's ability to remain patient, hopeful, and receptive to divine wisdom. This expansiveness is deeply connected to ma'rifat (deeper recognition of God), which is bestowed as grace depending on taqwa, (righteous vigilance of our words, deeds, actions and intentions) and steadfast tawakkul.

The Heart as Divine Compass

The Promised Messiah (as) referenced the hadith: "Istafti qalbak" 'Seek a verdict from your heart. The heart, when purified, remains the organ most closely linked to divine light and inspiration. Allah is Qudus (Holy) and wants us to purify our hearts to draw closer to Him. It is the heart with which the line of divinity is linked.

The Promised Messiah (as) emphasized that purifying the heart reroutes disordered thinking and cures disturbed emotions, facilitating restraint of the tongue so our words become humble and grateful instead of hurtful and hateful. The Qur'an affirms: "And it is by the great mercy of Allah that thou art kind towards them, and if thou hadst been rough and hard-hearted, they would surely have dispersed from around thee. So pardon them and ask forgiveness for them" (3:160)

Divine Blessings and Self-Reformation

Allah's blessings are proportional to self-reformation. When one purifies intentions and aligns actions with righteousness, the heart's capacity expands and divine favor increases: "Surely, Allah changes not the condition of a people until they change that which is in their hearts..." (Ar-Ra'd, 13:12)

The Spiritual Pathway

Wussat Qalb is the living measure of a believer's capacity to bear trials, extend compassion, maintain gratitude, and receive divine light. It grows through tawakkul, is strengthened by taqwa, and opens the path to ma'rifat.

When the heart is thus expanded, it becomes a true seat of divine communication.
